Clint Says: Save some money and see a matinee

 

I was pleasantly surprised by NEED FOR SPEED. As far as car movies go, (and they are almost always horrible), this one was one of the best. Aaron Paul does a great job, Jesse Pinkman fans will not be disappointed.

 

Incredibly, according to Aaron Paul, this movie is 100% camera caught, meaning no CGI or green screen technology was used. If that is the case, kudos to the director because some of the racing scenes are almost too amazing to believe.

 

One warning on this movie: Watch your speed when leaving the theater. You'll want to tear up the asphalt like never before.

TYLER PERRY'S: THE SINGLE MOMS' CLUB

Rated PG-13

Stars: Nia Long, Amy Smart

Plot: A diverse group of moms bond over issues at the school their children attend and form a support group.

Clint Says: Wait for the DVD

 

This is nowhere near the best offering from Tyler Perry. It feels like this movie got rushed to print and the story was left in its wake.

This film is overly dialogue heavy with some scenes lasting several minutes and never really going anywhere or adding to the story. Even the musical montage to move the plot forward, (usually no dialogue), has words written all over the screen.

This is ultimately a relationship movie, but it's difficult to care about any of the relationships because they aren't developed well. If you want to see a Tyler Perry movie, I recommend saving your money and renting one of his better films.

Movie Review for February 28th, 2014

NON-STOP

Stars: Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore
Plot: An alcoholic Federal Air Marshal must try to stop a trans-Atlantic hijacking, but everyone thinks he is the one responsible.

Clint Says: Wait until after opening weekend, but see this in theaters.

While NON-STOP is formulaic in every way with the typical rabbit chases and straw men it is still a really suspensful and fun movie. There were several times where I found myself literally sitting on the edge of my seat and a few times where I gasped for breath after realizing I had been holding my breath for several seconds. If you like suspensful action-flicks with a good dose of mystery NON-STOP will satisfy.


SON OF GOD
Rated PG-13
Stars: Diogo Morgado, Greg Hicks
Plot: The story of Jesus from birth to Resurrection.

Clint Says: Go buy the DVD that's already for sale.

SON OF GOD is well done, but if you already watched Mark Burnett's mini-series THE BIBLE you've seen this. It's the same footage from the mini-series only cut down to just the story of Jesus.

It is well done and stays true to the bible, but it's not as powerful as THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST. If you want to see it I would recommend getting the most bang for your buck and just buying the entire mini-series. You can get it here. 

Movie Review for February 21, 2014

Clint Says: Save some money and go see a matinee

POMPEII is the kind of movie you go to see in the theaters because it is so visually spectacular. If you are looking for a film with deep meaningful dialogue, go see something else. This movie isn't great by most standards, but if you are planning on seeing it, I highly recommend seeing it on the big screen. If you wait for the DVD you'll find it to be a mediocre movie at best.



3 DAYS TO KILL

Stars: Kevin Costner, Hailee Steinfeld, Amber Heard
Plot: A retiring CIA agent with only months to live is offered a drug to save his life in return for one last job. A job he must do while trying to bring his family back together.

Clint Says: Wait for the DVD and let someone else rent it

Kevin Costner proves once again that he has zero ability to act. That combined with a horrible screenplay and poor directing make for a 2-hour snooze fest. Here are a couple of things you'll be able to "look forward" to in 3DTK:
1. The main villain has little more than a cameo role. How are you supposed to care about the good guy getting the bad guy if you have no clue what the bad guy is all about?
2. The business-like CIA handler heads to Paris and instantly becomes an over-sexualized weirdo for no discernible reason whatsoever.
3.  There are several moments of would-be comedic relief, but Costner's acting is so poor they just come across as lame.
4. The movie is not a beat-the-clock action thriller like the trailers suggest. Instead, it is a movie about a dysfunctional family trying to reconcile while the CIA gets in the way every so often.

If you really need to see a movie similar to this, go watch THE BOURNE IDENTITY again...you'll be much happier with your choice.
