This is easily one of the best films of the year and should be the front runner for Best Comedy as well as many of the Best Supporting Actor nominations. It may even see nominations for Screenplay and Director.

When you hear that this is a 2-plus hour movie about the housing crash of 2008 you would think that it would be the most boring, slow-moving film, but it is actually very exciting and enthralling from beginning to end. The way they deliver the boring information is done in such a unique and fun way that you almost can’t help but be happy to be learning about lame economic terms.

Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay give outstanding, possibly award-worthy performances in this rather boring and slow film.

The premise behind the movie is highly intriguing, but the execution is lacking and the film never gets into the meat of the issue or the payoff. The conflict is mild at best and the stakes are almost non-existent.

Will Smith has given us a thinking-person's blockbuster. This movie is done in a way that it will satisfy both the casual movie-goer and the person looking for something deep and meaningful in their theatrical experience.

I'm not sure how true to the real story this film stays, but it is fascinating to see one man take on one of the world's largest businesses. His journey is compelling, frustrating and intense. You can tell that his character feels passionate about trying to save lives no matter what the personal cost to himself or his profession.

I would like to know if the NFL had any editorial say in this film. There are several scenes that make them look bad, but the film uses real NFL logos and stadiums so it makes me think that they may have had some input into the final cut. I hope not, but that remains to be seen.

This is not a happy, fun, popcorn flick. It is a powerful, moving film that is worth the time and money.

The Ferrell/Wahlberg combination is either incredible or a complete disaster. This movie, unfortunately, is the later. It's obnoxious, whiny, slow, and barely funny. I saw it in a theater with about 20 other people and I heard half a dozen laughs at most.

Most of the best lines and scenes from the movie are in the trailer, and a couple of good ones in the trailer didn't make it into the movie.

This film is full of cliches and stereotypes and the situations are unbelievable and forced.

This movie owes a big "Thank You" to STAR WARS because the only way it is making money is by people not able to see STAR WARS because it is sold out and opting to see this instead.

I enjoyed this movie, but I wish it would have been better. I love the Lawrence/Cooper/De Niro crew, but this film doesn't quite capture the magic that we have seen from them in their other endeavors. I'm sure this movie will be nominated for, and win, several awards, but I'm not sure that it should.

The trailer leads one to believe that Joy is a savvy, go-getter that refuses to let nothing stand in her way, and while she eventually gets there, she spends the first half of the film dealing with everyone else's issues. It's important to the plot, but it could have been handled in a few minutes so we could move on to the good stuff quicker.

JOY has been slotted into the Comedy category, but the laughs are few. It's much more of a drama. Also, one of the things that makes these films so good is the rapport and banter between Lawrence and Cooper. We don't get nearly enough of that because, he's in the movie for all of about 10 minutes.

Like I said, I enjoyed this movie, and you probably will to, but it won't be a favorite for many people. You'd be better off just waiting for the DVD or seeing a matinee.

I'm not really sure how you can make a movie about extreme sports, high stakes robberies, and undercover FBI work boring, but director Ericson Core managed to do it in spectacularly boring fashion.

There are so many eye-rolling moments in this film that I felt like I was doing my own back flips and stunts. The bad guys' motivation is flimsy at best, and Luke Bracey's incredible lack of acting skills makes Keanu Reeves look like he should have won an Oscar for the original POINT BREAK.

If I'm ever forced to watch this move again I may have to consider jumping off a cliff as an alternative...parachute optional.

I really believe that when Quentin Tarantino sat down to write this screenplay he had just seen the movie CLUE (1985) and said, "I can do that movie way better. And with a ton more violence and bad language. And in the wild west."

Tarantino once again relies on the stellar talent of many of his go-to actors, and they pull off quite the epic flick. That said, this is a 3-plus hour long, Quentin Tarantino film. If either of those things bothers you do not go see this film.

You should also avoid this movie if you are easily offended by bad language, including the constant use of the N word, you do not like gratuitous violence, or you aren't a fan of Shakespearean-style tragedies.

You should drop everything and go see this movie now if you are a Quentin Tarantino fan, because this is some of his finest work since PULP FICTION. You should also see it if you love intriguing mysteries, scenes where you can cut the tension with a knife, and crazy twists that you will never see coming.

This film is long, over the top, ridiculous, and amazing. If you can handle it I highly recommend seeing it.

NOTE: Tarantino filmed this movie in the style of the old road show films. If you have a chance to see it in the road show fashion, I recommend it. It's odd compared to today's movies, but it is interesting. You'll feel like you are getting punked for the first ten minutes of the film, but then it kicks in, and it moves at light speed after the intermission.
********NO SPOILERS********
********NOT EVEN INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT'S IN THE FILM*********
********JUST MY REVIEW*********

The first film I ever saw in theaters was STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE (4). From that moment on I was hooked. I was a STAR WARS fan for life. Then came Episodes 1 - 3 and I briefly considered joining the Dark Side. Then about two years ago I heard that J.J. Abrams was going to make a new STAR WARS. I am a huge J.J. Abrams fan, and what he did with STAR TREK was nothing short of amazing, so I waited, agonizingly, for two years until Tuesday December 16, 2015 when I finally got to see EPISODE VII.

Ladies and gentlemen, I bounced in my chair like a giddy little school boy for two hours and ten minutes. I clapped, I cheered, I cried, and I grabbed the people sitting beside me when things went to a J.J.Abrams level of crazy.

Simply put, this movie is spectacular. It is the STAR WARS movie I have waited 30 years to see. It feels like the original trilogy, but done in a modern way. The story is interesting, the characters are compelling and believable.

Dear readers, you are going to completely fall in love with Daisy Ridley in the first ten minutes of the movie. She is going to be a massive Hollywood star.

One word of warning, there are MAJOR plot points that many inconsiderate people out there will begin publishing on social media very soon. You really need to avoid all of that to enjoy this movie thoroughly. I suggest buying tickets to see it as soon as possible and also avoiding the internet as much as your life will allow.

The Force is strong with this one.

Here's the deal. If you are putting your movie up against STAR WARS 7 you are basically saying, "We know this film isn't great and we are fine with losing." I'm not saying this is a horrible film, but it's one that will easily be forgotten.

Poehler and Fey are very funny throughout this raunchy and f-bomb filled comedy, but the script is exceedingly juvenile and boring. There is nothing in this film that we haven't seen before dozens of times.

If you are looking for a few good R-rated laughs this weekend, SISTERS will most likely satisfy, but don't expect it to be one that you'll be excited to tell your friends you saw.
This is one of those films that you know exactly what it is going to be before you see it. That said, I thought the physical comedy was funny and everything else was on some level of tolerable. The movie offers nothing that makes it worth seeing in theaters, but it will be worth a rental when it comes out on DVD.

That's my take on it. My five year old daughter, who is a much harsher critic than I could ever be, said this about the movie. "It's waaaayyyyy too long and it's BORING!"

Since the movie is targeted for someone a lot closer to her age than to mine you may want to take her word for it.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-38483215392443308922015-12-10T19:10:00.000-08:002015-12-10T19:10:25.622-08:00Movie Review For December 11, 2015: LEGEND and IN THE HEART OF THE SEAIN THE HEART OF THE SEA

Director Ron Howard has a knack for giving audiences epic films to experience. This movie is no exception. The action is powerful, the cinematography is stunning, and the story is compelling and told well.

While this movie is a dark horse in the awards race this year, it would not surprise me to see it nominated in several technical categories as well as visual effects. If it ends up getting any acting nominations it would most likely be for Brendan Gleeson. He gives an impressive and emotional performance.

If you like epic sea tales, you will love this movie. If a 19th century yarn about a big, mean whale sounds boring to you, you should probably skip this movie.

Tom Hardy has quickly risen in the ranks to one of the best go-to guys in Hollywood. In LEGEND he plays both of the Kray brothers and does an amazing job.

This is an interesting, period-piece, gangster flick that will have you laughing, cheering, cringing, and covering your eyes. I'm not sure how close this movie stays to the true story, but if the real story is even half of what the movie portrays one would be wise to not cross the Krays.

This is not a film for those with a weak heart or stomach, it is full of gangster violence and all of the hard things that go along with that lifestyle. That said, it also has very compelling relationship stories between the brothers others in their lives.

This movie isn't going to win any of the big awards this year, nor will it be nominated for many, but it's still a film worth seeing if you are looking for a good gangster flick this weekend.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-55445175037271219712015-12-03T19:50:00.000-08:002015-12-03T19:50:20.457-08:00Movie Reviews For December 4, 2015: KRAMPUS and THE LETTERSKRAMPUS

This film is an utter waste of time. It's not scary, it's not entertaining, and the ending is so ridiculous that it will be nearly impossible for you to not hear some variation of "What the...?" from other viewers.

KRAMPUS is full of plot holes, lame dialogue, and horrific acting. I would rather spend all of the holidays with people I can't stand then have to watch this travesty again.
Put this one on your naughty list.

Even though this film is slow, the story is so compelling and inspiring that it makes it a joy to watch. If you already know about the work that Mother Teresa did you will find this new angle of information on her life to be quite intriguing. If you are not familiar with the things she accomplished in her lifetime you will be astounded.

While I wouldn't take younger children to see this movie, simply because they will get bored, I would encourage anyone with children from age 10 on up to take them to see this film. It is a wonderful catalyst to talk with them about selfless giving, equality and struggle.

Juliette Stevenson's portrayal of Mother Teresa is spectacular. She shows us the strength, compassion, humility and courage that embodied the life of one of this world's greatest servants.

I don't know if this film will catch the eye of The Academy, but it is worthy of many awards this year.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-75848018401224666122015-11-24T22:11:00.000-08:002015-11-24T22:32:36.064-08:00Movie Reviews November 25, 2015: CREED, THE GOOD DINOSAUR, and VICTOR FRANKENSTEINCREED

This is a ROCKY for a new generation. It is powerful, emotional and most importantly, it's a good film.

The movie went a lot deeper than I expected it to go. It got down inside the main characters so we could really understand their strengths, flaws, and motivations. The performances by all of the main players were great. Not quite award-worthy, but still fine acting all around.

There are several predictable and cliche moments throughout the movie, but those can easily be pushed aside since the entirety of the film is so well done.

And, in true ROCKY fashion, they did leave it open for the possibility of a sequel.

This film is a swing and a miss for Pixar. It is really slow, even though it's only 90 minutes long it feels like it's well over 2 hours. There are very few light-hearted or funny moments. And while this isn't a funny film per se, we have come to expect a lot of laughs from Pixar movies.

The film is rated PG and I wouldn't take anyone under age 5 because there are several very scary moments. Also, the film just isn't good enough to hold the attention of the younger kids.

This movie has very little to offer adults, which is quite disappointing. Usually Pixar films are great for all ages. This one will appeal to children that are 8-10 years old and that's about it.

There are some other family films coming out in the near future that look like they would be worth your theater money. I say save it for those films and just rent this one when the DVD is finally released.

Warning: The animated short before THE GOOD DINOSAUR is terrifying. I know that if my five year old saw it she would have nightmares. Just be aware going into the movie that bad dreams are a possibility.

The trailer for this movie had me chomping at the bit to see it. I was really hoping that it would live up to the expectations that I had from the trailer, and it did.

It has a great plot with an especially fascinating origin story for Igor, and the Gothic cinematography is outstanding. McAvoy and Radcliffe have incredible chemistry making the movie even more fun to watch.

This film is nerdtastic all the way through with the science and experiments. It is also quite scary and intense in places. Most people wouldn't consider this a horror film by today's standards, but I would say this is exactly what a true horror film should be.

Simply put, this film is outstanding. It is a perfect ending to an incredible franchise. I walked out of the theater with so many emotions. I was happy because the movie was so good. I was sad because there are several very emotional and intense scenes that will wreck you and leave you raw. And I felt loss knowing that this will be the last time I will get to experience something new from this world.

While the acting throughout the series has been great, in this movie the actors went to another level of greatness. There is a possibility that we might see Josh Hutcherson up for a few awards.

MOCKINGJAY Part 2 will leave you breathless. For nearly the entire 2 1/2 hours you finally think you are going to be able to catch your breath for a moment then something else happens making you jump out of your chair and holding your breath even longer.

Grab your friends and head to the theaters now. Then, once you've all recovered, go do it again.

One word of warning. It is imperative that you see Part 1 before seeing Part 2. If you haven't seen it you will be completely lost from the first scene. The move starts where Part 1 left off almost as if it is just a jump cut to the next scene.

This is one of those films where you know going into it you are going to see stupid, raunchy humor throughout, hilarious cameos, and a heartwarming finish. It's also a film that affords you the luxury of being able to turn your brain off for 90 minutes.

There is nothing about this movie that is great. There is nothing about this movie that makes it worth seeing in theaters. It's stupid, childish, obnoxious and annoying. That said, if you are looking for a fun, brainless, laugh-out-loud night with friends this movie will not disappoint.

While it isn't the best work for most of the actors, I must say that this is probably Miley Cyrus's greatest moment to date.
If you are in the mood for a well done, suspenseful thriller this week then you need to see this movie. The acting is great, the plot is incredible, and the twists are stunning.

The only thing that really bothered me about this movie was that it switches back and forth between 2001 and 2015, but the characters are the same, so sometimes it is confusing as to which year we are in.Other than that, this is a film that will sit in your brain for days.

Julia Roberts plays the slightly creepy, plain Jane cop very well, and her turning point scene will wreck you. There may be a couple of award nominations in her future. The rest of the cast does a fine job, but Roberts is the stand out.

I have to give Angelina Jolie credit for being ambitious. She wrote, directed and starred in BY THE SEA and she did it all in an interesting throwback homage to the glamour films of the 60's and 70's. That said, this film is horrible.

There are three things I really can't stand in movies. One is a slow-moving plot in a 2-plus hour long movie, another is a highly anticipated reveal that turns out to be a complete letdown, and another is Brad Pitt eating. This film strikes out in all three categories.

It is dreadfully slow and boring. The film could have easily been edited down by 45 minutes and still accomplished the same thing. We spend more that two hours catching glimpses of the horrific event that has caused this couple so much strife for so long only to find out in the last 10 minutes that the horrific event, while tragic, is something that millions of people go through every year and are able to carry on with their lives in an all, but normal fashion. It's actually quite offensive to those people that have dealt with the same thing. And finally, Brad Pitt's eating is nauseating. How anyone can watch him scoop, and chomp and smack and stuff like that is beyond me.

I honestly can't see how anyone could walk out of the theater after seeing this movie and be able to say that it was a good film.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-82207723073527348092015-11-12T22:31:00.005-08:002015-11-12T22:46:13.694-08:00Movie Reviews For November 13, 2015: LOVE THE COOPERS and THE 33LOVE THE COOPERS

In the Fall of 2010 we all sat glued to TV screens desperately hoping we would see the first miner come up through a small hole in the ground. When he finally did, you could almost hear the whole world cheering as one. No movie could ever recreate the sense of drama and intensity of that moment, but this film comes close.

It is impossible to imagine what life would be like living, for 69 days, under a rock that could shift and kill you at any second. The stress and fear must have been all but unbearable. We get to see some of that in this movie, but there are so many stories that the director tried to get in that we never really get to go deep into any of them.

The same can be said for the stories of the families waiting for their loved ones to be rescued and the rescuers. We get to see bits and pieces of a lot of stories, but we are never given enough to really care about individuals. Thankfully the story is so compelling itself that it makes the movie worth watching.

If you are looking for a dramatic and inspirational story, you will find THE 33 satisfactory.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-85358117576963155762015-11-05T18:02:00.000-08:002015-11-06T12:12:59.136-08:00Move Reviews For November 6, 2015: SPECTRE and SUFFRAGETTESPECTRE

The 007 cast and crew has done it again. This is a smart, fast-paced, well-acted spy flick that will have you holding your breath and cheering out loud.

This will almost certainly be Daniel Craig's last go around as James Bond, and this movie is a perfect sendoff for him. The film does set up another Bond film, so fear not 007 fans, we will see more of everyone's favorite spy. (Will it be Idris Elba, or Benedict Cumberbatch, or Tom Hiddleston, or someone else?)

This film has several great moments that flash back to previous films, but the best by far is a re-introduction of one of Bond's greatest villains. If you aren't cheering at the reveal you either aren't a full Bond fan or you need to have your pulse checked.

While this movie isn't quite as good as SKYFALL, it is still outstanding and very much worth seeing in theaters.

Also, SPECTRE has, arguably, the best opening credit montage of all of the Bond films to this point.

This is the kind of movie that checks off almost all of the boxes for a solid Academy Award push. It's a period piece, it focuses on a social issue, and Meryl Streep is in it. Unfortunately, it fails to check off the most important box... it's simply not a very good movie.

SUFFRAGETTE could have been spectacular, but instead it is slow-moving to the point of being boring in some places, and the arc from point A to point B is riddled with dips and bumps. The ending is rushed and feels incomplete.

That said, Carey Mulligan is outstanding in her lead role and is worthy of being on the short list for awards nominations. It's just too bad that she didn't have a lot to work with in regards to script. Meryl Streep is in this movie for all of three minutes, if she gets an Oscar nomination for this role we all need to give up on Hollywood forever.

This is a movie that should make women feel empowered and proud, but the emotion isn't there.

This is a slightly modified version of the same old Peanuts gang that has been around forever. If you are a fan of the old comic strip and holiday specials you will most likely enjoy this film. If you find the themes to be slow and boring, this film will not change your mind.

Charlie Brown is still as melancholy as ever, Lucy is still a bully and Snoopy is still fighting The Red Baron with Woodstock by his side.

I was hoping that, with the animation update, we might see a newer, more relevant style. It's too bad that Peanuts hasn't kept up with the times. I would really like my young kids to enjoy Peanuts, but it doesn't fit in to their high-tech lifestyles.

I do like the nostalgia of it all, but nostalgia is lost on a five year old. I'm afraid this movie misses it's target.

This is easily one of the best films of the year. It will only be in limited release, but if you can find it at a theater near you, go see it now.

Brie Larson is amazing and Jacob Tremblay may win several awards this year. They are perfect together, and their portrayals will make you feel their hope, anger, despair and fear.

This is one of the best psychological films I have ever seen. The mental anguish is so real as is the dealing with the aftermath of their horrific situation.

I'm not spoiling anything that isn't already in the trailers, but I will say the escape scene lasts about five minutes and I'm pretty sure I held my breath the entire time. It was so powerful and intense you could almost see the tension filling up the theater.
This movie is almost completely unwatchable. It doesn't do anything for the first 30 minutes, it barely does anything over the course of the rest of the film, and there is almost zero redemptive quality to any of it.

Sandra Bullock and Billy Bob Thornton are great in their roles, but the plot is just plain terrible. It's one of those movies you know where it is going, but the ending is still disappointing.

The dirty politics throughout will make you feel like you need to take a long shower and loofah the nastiness off of you. Unfortunately, you won't be able to wash off the stench of this flick.

This is food porn at its finest. If you love food shows and high-end cuisine you will find this movie completely captivating. I will give you one warning though. If you can't stand Gordon Ramsey then skip this movie. Bradley Cooper is basically the world's biggest jerk of a chef.

Cooper and Miller have much better chemistry in BURNT than they did in AMERICAN SNIPER, and both do very well in their respective roles.

Aside from all of the amazing food footage this movie has a compelling plot, interesting and deep characters, and a unique feel. And while this isn't necessarily a film that must be seen on the big screen, if you are looking for a good movie to see, BURNT is a good choice.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-87002767253549237662015-10-22T22:02:00.001-07:002015-10-22T22:02:08.641-07:00Movie Reviews for October 23, 2015: STEVE JOBS, JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS, THE LAST WITCH HUNTER, and ROCK THE KASBAHSTEVE JOBS

When I first heard that the concept for this film was to show Steve Jobs behind the scenes of three of his product launches I was nervous that it was going to be quite a boring film. To my relief, this film is anything but boring. In fact, it is very intense and exciting all the way through.

Fassbender and Winslet have extraordinary chemistry that allows for truly captivating banter between them. Seth Rogen does a great job in his nerdtastic portrayal of Woz. And Jeff Daniels proves once again that he can make a lot out of very little.

Just by the nature of the film one can easily gather that a lot of the events and conflicts are fictionalized, but even so it is very well done. I wouldn't go so far as to say that the information in the movie is all true to Steve Jobs and the people around him, but I would bet that it is a mostly accurate representation.

If you like to think while you are being entertained you will really enjoy STEVE JOBS.

This film may crack my Ten Worst Films of 2015, although we still have two months left for it to be knocked out of that dubious honor. I can't even begin to tell you how cheesy and lame this film is. The dialogue is painful, the lip syncing doesn't match the lyrics, they pretend to play one instrument while we hear something different, and it's almost two hours long.

Fans of the JATH cartoon will be annoyed because the film strays wildly from the story you know. Ironically, the 1980's TV show is more forward-thinking and pro-woman than the movie, the Misfits aren't in the movie until the very end, and Synergy is totally lame compared to the Synergy of the cartoon.

Really, the only people that might like this film are girls between 8 and 12. For them it will be a fun film with some positive and empowering messages. For everyone else you'll see those empowering moments as manipulative and forced.

If you are unlucky enough to have to see this movie you will be treated to about five minutes of awesome. Be on the lookout for some epic cameos, Brad the Valet, and the uber fan security guard. They at least make some of this film tolerable.

Also, Kimber may be the most unloved and under appreciated girl in the history of movies. You'll, unfortunately, need to see the film to figure out why.

This is the kind of film where you hope it will be smart and unique, but you go in expecting it to be just another typical action flick with witches. Unfortunately, it lives up only to the expectations and not the hopes.

The setup for this film give the potential for something special, but ultimately there is nothing about this film that is extraordinary or compelling. It moves slow, the action scenes are muddled and hard to follow, and if you are a HARRY POTTER fan you'll quickly catch on that the Queen Witch is basically Voldemort. (Horcruxes for the almost win).

There are a couple of exciting elements to the film, but nothing that is worth spending the money to see it in theaters. Just wait for the DVD, and when you do finally see it, check your brain at the door. because if you think too much you'll really hate this movie.

Jack Black belongs in the Awesomeness Hall of Fame. He is so much fun as the mysterious R.L.Stein. That, combined with the unique story line for this movie, makes it one worth seeing. It is a fun, funny, somewhat scary film that kids from 8 to 88 will enjoy.

Fans of the books and TV show will enjoy this movie thoroughly, but it is just fine for those of you that have never delved into the GOOSEBUMPS world. The writers and director do a great job of catching you up without making it boring for the big fans.

The only thing I wish was better about this movie are the monsters. The CGI feels like it is from about 10 years ago. I liked the monsters, but the amateurish graphics kept pulling me out of the story with how obviously fake the monsters were. (I know. I know. Monsters are fake. But they could at least look real).

This film is like a gateway drug for horror flicks. If you don't like horror films, but you want to get into the Halloween spirit a bit, this film should satisfy your craving. I wouldn't take any kids under six or seven to see this movie, but it is rated PG, so it's pretty tame for most families.

Also, be on the lookout for a special appearance by R.L. Stein. It's a fun moment.

When Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks work together on a project it is fair to expect an exceptional film. BRIDGE OF SPIES meets that expectation. Hanks is masterful once again and Spielberg allows the story to be the star without overdoing it.

The film is a bit slow in some parts, but it is also incredibly intense and suspenseful. It's a great period piece that will give you a lot to talk about over coffee after you've seen it.

This is a film that I will probably see again, because there is so much to it that I want to see if I pick up on anything I missed the first time around.

There may be a few award nominations in the future for this film, but it won't be an Oscar front runner. However, it is still very much worth the price of admission.

As far as horror movies go, this is one of the better ones. It is much more along the lines of true horror rather than slasher flick. That said, it still had a few eye rolling moments of cliche horror movie antics.

The one thing that sets this movie apart from most horror films is the cast. They do an incredible job and make what could have been a rather bland film into something worth seeing. However, all of you SONS OF ANARCHY fans will be expecting Charlie Hunnam to hop on a motorcycle at any moment, because his character has many similar mannerisms to Jax Teller.

I was nervous going into this film because the studio moved the release date a few times, and that is rarely a good sign for a movie. I'm still not sure why they changed the release date, but it was worth the wait. This film is a spectacular sight that will captivate and mesmerize your entire family.

This is a prequel to the Peter Pan story, but it honors well the story that we all know. It even feels like the Director wanted to pay homage to HOOK with some of the sets and the overall look of Neverland.

This film is also one of the first to use 3D to the full effect by adding in a black bar at the top and bottom of the screen and having the action spill over that. It makes the movie come to life even more than your typical 3D film.

The acting, for the most part, is outstanding. (Garrett Hedlund is the weak link here). And the film is highly entertaining and action-packed throughout. Some of the action may be a bit too intense for the under-five crowd, but I think most kids will enjoy this film.

Although this movie is really good, it isn't really award-worthy, except in a few of the technical areas. It wouldn't surprise me if we see PAN up for a costume Oscar.

Hopefully, this is not the last we see of this franchise. There are a lot of story lines that would make for an interesting sequel, not the least of which is the falling out between Peter and Hook. Personally, I can't wait for PAN 2.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-36772999446274133422015-10-01T19:18:00.003-07:002015-10-01T19:48:08.857-07:00Movie Reviews For October 2, 2015: THE MARTIAN, THE WALK and SICARIOTHE MARTIAN

Clocking in at just shy of 2 1/2 hours, THE MARTIAN is surprisingly fast-paced and doesn't feel long at all. This is a fascinating and compelling film that will draw you in and captivate you from the opening minutes until the end credits roll.

The cinematography and effect are spectacular. In fact, this may be a decent contender for some of the technical awards coming up. However, I don't see this movie getting nominations for things like best picture, best actor or director. I can't really put my finger on it, but I was expecting this film to be more than it was. I think it was missing an emotional element that could have taken it from a great movie to an Oscar front-runner.

THE MARTIAN is definitely worth the price of a theater ticket, but it isn't a film that is going to wow you like GRAVITY did.

This film is spectacularly fun and insanely intense. I spent a good 45 minutes of the film grabbing the arm rests on my seat as tight as I could for fear of falling off the buildings. In fact, the sheer epicness of the tight rope scenes may be even better than what we witnessed while watching GRAVITY. And while EVEREST was intense, this movie makes EVEREST look like a mole hill.

Like EVEREST and GRAVITY, THE WALK is a movie that must be seen in IMAX 3D. If you wait for the DVD you'll miss the whole point of the grandness and depth of the film.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt does a marvelous job in his role, so much so that there may be a few award nomination in his future. I doubt he will win any of them, but the nominations may be there. It will be up for, and win, many technical awards.

Tickets to THE WALK should come with an oxygen tank, mask and blood pressure medication. If you only see a couple of films a year, this should be one of them.

This film had the potential to be something unique and interesting. Instead, it took the road almost always traveled by Hollywood and it became nothing more than your typical drug movie shoot-em-up.

Beyond that it took Emily Blunt's character and went completely off the rails. She is described as an agent that "has been kicking down doors since day one", meaning that she is kick-butt in the field. Unfortunately, the director decided that it would be a great idea for her to completely forget her training and fall apart having to rely on the stronger and smarter men throughout.

I will say that the film is interesting an compelling even though it is cliche and annoying, but it's not good enough to spend the big bucks at the theater.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-80960644294681441692015-09-24T21:36:00.001-07:002015-09-24T21:36:22.465-07:00Movie Reviews For September 25, 2015: HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2, THE INTERN, and THE GREEN INFERNOHOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2

This is one of the rare franchises where the second film is as good, possibly even better than the first. The story is quite similar, but the jokes are fresh and it is compelling for both adults and children.

I took my five year old daughter and she loved it. There were many moments where she was laughing out loud, and very few moments where she was fidgeting in her chair. I was interested in the film all the way through as well. I found it funny and endearing.

There are a couple of scenes that may be a bit much for the younger kids so beware of that going into it. Aside from that, this is a great movie for a whole family outing.

I was shocked at how much I liked this film. It was significantly funnier than I thought it would be, and there were very few cliche Hollywood moments. In fact, it was so funny that we missed a good dozen lines because we were all laughing so hard.

Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro have a wonderful chemistry that will warm your heart. It's also nice to see De Niro playing a role that goes against his type. I can't recall the last time I saw him acting awkward or having a lack of confidence in a movie.

This film will give you an emotional roller coaster ride. As I said, it is hysterically funny, but it is also sad, heartwarming and triumphant. Bring tissues to wipe the tears out of your eyes as you cry and the snot off of your nose when you snort laugh.

This may be one of the best comedies of the year.

Oh, what could have been. This film had all of the opportunity in the world to be a spectacularly scary horror flick. Instead, it is a spectacular fail.

The actin is atrocious, the plot it ridiculous, it's way too long, it's not even remotely scary, it's full of massive plot holes and moments of convenience, and the audience is given no real reason to care about any of the characters.

This movie is extremely violent and gory, but most of that looks completely fake. And some of the violence doesn't even make sense.

The only thing even remotely decent about this flick is that it has a few moments that are somewhat suspenseful, but even those moments aren't really scary.

Johnny Depp does it again with a performance where he completely disappears and all you see on screen is Whitey Bulger. He is creepy, brutal and powerful all at once. And while I don't think thins film is quite award-worthy, there are a couple of scenes where Depp show why he is one of the elite actors in Hollywood.

This film is quite a bit slower than your average mafia flick, but that doesn't mean it is any less intense or violent. I found myself nearly 100% engaged for almost the entire 2 hours.

The only real downside to this film, and I can't believe I'm having to say this, is the weak performance by Benedict Cumberbatch. His role is one that could have been played by just about anyone so why they chose him one will never know. His accent, which is supposed to be South Boston, is all over the place and really quite annoying.

All in all, this is a great film worth the price of admission.

You will hear many people refer to CAPTIVE as a "Christian movie" over the next few days, but really it is a true story that happens to have a couple of Christian elements in it. This film doesn't get bogged down in Christian-speak or things of that nature.

In a film where you have the majority of the story happening solely between a kidnapper and his hostage the acting needs to be incredible to pull it off and not seem cheesy or boring. Oyelowo and Mara do a great job of keeping the audience engaged throughout.

While it isn't the most exciting film out this weekend it still is worth seeing if you have the opportunity.
This is a theater movie. By that, I mean this is a film that should be seen in a theater. And not only in a theater, but in the biggest one possible.

I saw this movie in IMAX 3D and there were several occasions where I felt a knot in my stomach because I thought we were going to fall off the mountain. The effects and cinematography are spectacular.

I must say that this movie takes a while to get going and once it does get up to speed it gets pretty brutal, but it is all worth it in the end.

EVEREST is a movie that I highly recommend spending your money to see it in the biggest and best way possible.
The second installment of the MAZE RUNNER franchise is action-packed, intense, suspenseful, creepy and better than the first one.

If you haven't seen the first one don't bother with this film, you will be lost. If you have see the first one, make an appointment to see this film as soon as possible. You will enjoy it.
Fans of the book series will also be pleased because the movie sticks fairly close to the book.

This film is ridiculous, stupid, over the top and COMPLETELY AWESOME!

Look, you know what you are getting into with this flick. It's fast cars, hot people, epic fighting and not much else. That said, the reason anyone goes to see these movies is for the fast cars, hot people and epic fighting.

This franchise really hit its stride with 6 and now 7 keeps that momentum going. It's a fun, exciting popcorn flick that will have you holding your breath and then driving too fast when you leave the theater.

For a movie about fast cars, it does take a while before it gets going. The first 20 minutes or so are pretty slow, but once the action kicks in it's a non-stop street race to the credits. There are several moments where the action is eye-rollingly ridiculous, but in this style of movie that is perfectly fine, and as far as I'm concerned, encouraged.

Paul Walker fans are going to be very pleased with the film. I'm not sure how much of the movie is actually him and how much is his brother filling in, but there wasn't a single second when I could tell that is wasn't him. The "face-replacing" technology that we first saw in the latest TRON film with Jeff Bridges was amazing, but still looked a bit odd. It was used in this film to put Paul's face on his brother's body for certain scenes, but now, it is seamless.

The last five minutes of the film are a tribute to Walker. It is a wonderful tribute, but it barely has anything to do with the rest of the movie. It's almost as if the Director said, "Plot? We don't need to worry about plot! This is Paul Walker!" But, even though the tribute doesn't fit it at all with the rest of the film, fans of the franchise will probably have a tough time keeping from shedding a tear.

A note to my Nashville area readers: Be on the lookout for the reporter about 10 minutes into the movie. She is our very own Stephanie Langston from News Channel 2!

CINDERELLA

If you have a tween or younger girl in your house you simply must take them to see this movie. They will LOVE it. CINDERELLA is a beautifully told tale that doesn't feel like a rehash of the dozens of other movies by the same name that have popped up through the decades.

One nice aspect about this new Cinderella is that she is much more than just a pretty, nice girl that can only escape her pitiful situation by finding the love of a man. In fact, the first time she meets the prince the outcome is quite unexpected.

Cate Blanchett does a stellar job as the wicked stepmother, and even though we are still very early in the year, we may see her get some award nominations as 2015 comes to a close. The step sisters are riotously funny and Helena Bonham Carter is perfect as The Fairy Godmother.

My only issue with this film is that the first half hour is really sad and slow. After that the story picks up and we are all on a ride into a wonderful ever after.

By the way, it's worth the price of admission just to see the Disney animated short FROZEN FEVER that plays prior to the film. It's seven minutes of pee-your-pants funny.

These DisneyNature films are always very well done and interesting and MONKEY KINGDOM is no exception, but like the others, there isn't anything in the movie that makes it so compelling that you have to see it in theaters. You will get the same effect and joy by watching this in your own living room four months from now that you would get by seeing it this weekend.

Really, the only reason to see it in theaters is because part of the ticket sales go to helping the monkeys survive. But if that is really something that concerns you, then just donate the full price of a ticket and then wait for the DVD.

As with most DisneyNature films, make sure you stick around through the credits. they show the camera crews working closely with the animals. To me it is the most intriguing part of the whole movie.

This film is safe and enjoyable for the whole family, so if you are looking for an outing this would be a good choice. Just don't expect your kids to walk out of it like they had just seen FROZEN.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-53493748157507255482015-09-10T20:48:00.000-07:002015-09-17T21:52:09.876-07:00Movie Review For September 11, 2015: THE VISIT, 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN, and THE PERFECT GUYI have a new, interactive website full of movie reviews and other fun movie things.
It's been 16 long years since M. Night Shyamalan gave us THE SIXTH SENSE. Since then he's done a lot, but nothing spectacular, and a few downright stinkers. THE VISIT is a return to his glory days.

This is a great horror film. It's not a scary, slasher flick, but rather a true, classic-style horror film that will terrify you. The audience I saw this movie with were jumping and screaming and fidgeting in their seats almost the entire film.

I almost want to call this a "found footage" film, but it really isn't. It's shot by the characters, but it's done in documentary style. This is nice because we, the audience, don't have to deal with a lot of shaky camera or poor framing.

Ed Oxenbould, (ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY), completely steals the show. He is riotously funny throughout the film, and gives a stellar performance on top of that.

In my time I've seen a lot of horror flicks and one thing has always been true. The scarier the movie the more people will go to the bathroom. This film had a steady stream of people heading out to take a potty break and a breather from the intensity.

If you like scary movies, you will love THE VISIT.

This is one of those films that really disappoints me. It is a film based on a true story that is incredible, but somewhere between reality and the big screen everything gets watered down, sanitized and boring.

The film moves dreadfully slow and there are several important moments that resolve in such a non-dramatic way that it makes you wonder why they even put that stuff in the film in the first place.

For the most part the actors do a fine job, but they have so little to work with that we hardly ever get to see them using their skills.

I don't usually like to compare films to one another, but WAR ROOM is significantly better than this film in all aspects.

If you are a Christian I think that this film will inspire you on some level, but you might need to pray for the energy to stay awake until the end credits.

Okay, we need to get two things out of the way before I can give my review of this film. First, can the movie poster for this film be any more sexist? The female lead in this film wears nothing in the movie like what she has on in the poster, Come on movie people, you can do better than this. Second, I have a huge man-crush on Michael Ealy. That is one pretty human.

Now on to the review.

For the most part, I enjoyed this movie. It was predictable and cliche almost all the way through the film (with one notable and refreshing exception), but it was still entertaining. The suspense is thick enough to keep you engaged, but it's not so suspenseful that it doesn't seem real.

Michael Ealy does a great job of switching between the perfect guy and a creepy sociopath, and the other characters play well against him.

Honestly, I will probably forget about this movie in a few weeks, because there really isn't much in it that is worthy of sticking with you, but if you are looking for a good, suspenseful thriller THE PERFECT GUY will satisfy.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-11959602196572222582015-09-07T17:50:00.000-07:002015-09-07T17:50:53.086-07:00DVD Review For September 8, 2015: THE AGE OF ADALINETHE AGE OF ADALINE

I am not a fan of films where implausible things happen. I'm fine with the impossible, because it's fiction. A woman that ends up not being able to age is an intriguing theme. I'm happy to suspend disbelief and enjoy the show in a case like that. Where I draw the line is when, and I'm not spoiling anything here that's not already in the trailer, said woman dates a man then decades later ends up running into that man because she is dating his son. The implausibility is cringe-worthy.

Aside from that the story is actually compelling and a nice love story. Blake Lively is wonderful in her role as Adaline, although her overly-proper speech pattern is somewhat distracting. It fits that her character being several decades older than she looks would talk like that, but it's tough to make one's brain reconcile the two.

This movie also has a very "sciencey" narrator that is endearing, annoying and unintentionally hilarious at once. In the screening I attended the audience laughed nearly every time he opened his mouth.

The film feels long even though it's not quite two hours long. It's fairly slow and at some times even boring, but there is enough that is compelling about it to bring you back into the story once it picks up again.

THE AGE OF ADALINE will give you plenty of eye-rolling moments, but it will also give you happy feels as well. If you like love stories with a twist, you'll most-likely like this film.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-55454084793637966512015-09-03T20:48:00.001-07:002015-09-03T20:48:36.125-07:00Movie Reviews for September 4, 2015: A WALK IN THE WOODS, THE TRANSPORTER REFUELED, and MISTRESS AMERICA

Yes, the rumors are true. Ed Skrein is, in fact, not Jason Statham. But this is still a good TRANSPORTER flick. Skrein does a fine job in the role and keeps the franchise moving forward.

If you've seen any of these films you know that it's fairly important to check your brain at the door. The whole point of these films is to showcase incredible driving with spectacular crashes, big fights, gorgeous women, and a twisty turny plot that is complicated enough to keep the audience engaged.

If you are going to see this in theaters, I highly recommend seeing it on one of the extra large screens with the best sound system available. It will add to the fun of the film.

This of you that are wary about seeing this film because it isn't Jason Statham should rest easy. It is still a film worth seeing.

This is one of those movies that is just sort of there. It's not bad, it's not great. It's mildly humorous with a couple of laugh out loud moments. It's not deep or as soul-searching as one might expect a "journey" film to be, nor is it a light and fluffy comedy.

Redford and Nolte are okay in this movie, but nothing anywhere near award-worthy. They are really nothing more than a couple of guys that I found myself neither rooting for or against. They were just there.

There isn't anything in this film that makes it worth seeing on the big screen. The character development could have been much better, and the following of their journey is all but superficial. Plus, this film is only rated R because of language. They could have easily cut the language and made this a PG or PG-13 film to make it more accessible to the audience.

It'll make for an okay Netflix night a few months from now, but you'll forget this film soon after.

This is easily one of the most annoying films I've seen this year. It's just one more in a long line of films that takes aim at the free spirit of Millennials and makes them look like a generation of slackers and losers.

It also has this really strange 80's movie vibe, except the super-annoying girl is friends with the socially awkward girl and they plot and scheme together. All it needed was a jock and a stoner, (actually, the stoner shows up about half way through the movie), and it could have been the worst John Hughes film ever made.

The acting is obnoxious, the plot is useless, and the takeaway is simply, "I want my money back."

As the end credits rolled in the theater where I saw this film, I sat in my chair completely astounded by what I had just witnessed. Even as I write this, I'm not sure if I loved this movie or hated it. Although I'm pretty sure I loved it.

This film jumps right into the action and never lets up. It's a high-octane face punch that keeps coming at you. There is one scene about halfway through the film that finally gives the audience a break. I could hear the audience give an almost collective sigh of relief.

Interestingly, this film is part of the MAD MAX franchise and it is set in that world, but the story is actually led by Charlize Theron's character. While Max does help out, she is the driving force behind everything that happens as well as the person that most often gets them out of their seemingly hopeless predicaments.

This movie is loud, intense, gross, weird, disturbing and hilarious in its over-the-top presence. You may love it or you may hate it, but either way it's a flick that should be experienced on the biggest screen possible.

THE D TRAIN is a complete train wreck. Imagine a sequel to THE BREAKFAST CLUB where Judd Nelson and Emilio Estevez, who ended up marrying Ally Sheedy, are a little bit too happy to see each other after all those years. That is THE D TRAIN in a nut shell.

It's got the feel and soundtrack of an 80s flick, but it's about a group of adults that graduated high school in 1994 and it's set in 2014.

It's not funny, it's not dramatic, it's not even quirky or weird. It's just there. I'm a huge fan of Jack Black, but this movie does not do him justice. I'm glad to see him in more serious roles, but this isn't it.

At 97 minutes you'd think this movie goes by pretty fast. Unfortunately, it drags on making that 97 minutes feel more like three hours. It's time you will never get back.

Even die hard Jack Black fans should skip this flick. Otherwise you'll be disappointed.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-63548813718746170982015-08-27T20:41:00.000-07:002015-08-28T03:55:16.455-07:00Movie Review For August 28, 2015: NO ESCAPE, WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS, and WAR ROOMBIG NEWS!!!!!
This film should come with an oxygen tank with every ticket sold. It is so intense and suspenseful you will find yourself holding your breath and, at times, literally sitting on the edge of your seat.

I can't even begin to tell you how grateful I was for the moments of downtime in the film just so I could catch my breath.

Owen Wilson breaks from type for this film and does an outstanding job in the process. Lake Bell is spectacular as well, and the two play off of each other with authentic chemistry.

The film does have a few plot holes and several moments of convenience, but it also rings very true with the way a mother and father would do anything to protect their children.

If you are looking for a good, suspenseful flick that will make you gasp for breath, NO ESCAPE is a great choice.

Have you ever helped someone move and they said, "put the couch here...no, over here...wait, let's try here"? That's kind of how it seems they made this movie. It's all over the place and it doesn't feel like there was a lot of planning before production began.

The actors do a fine job, nothing spectacular, but not so bad as to take away from the movie, but the plot is really thin. There are moments where the film tries to go deep, but it feels forced and fake. Then those moments are pushed aside quickly so we can get back to the party.

I would say this flick is a total waste of time, but there is a nice, educational seven-minute stretch that teaches us the theory behind being a great DJ with charts and graphs included. It's like watching "How To Become A DJ" on one of the science-friendly cable networks. At least I felt like I got a bit of an education, even if the rest of the film was all but useless.

I'm not really sure how to even classify this film. It's kind of a Rom-Com, but the romance is secondary and there isn't any comedy, it's kind of a music movie, but the music is shockingly minimal, and it's kind of a Bro-party flick, but you don't really care about them that much. It's just sort of....there. I'd suggest leaving it there and seeing something else.

This film has one of the best ensemble casts of 2015. Unfortunately, the script doesn't do them justice. The acting in ALOHA is outstanding, but that can only take a movie so far.

Even though this movie isn't even two hours long, it feels like it drags on. There isn't any conflict or really anything of interest that happens during the first half of the movie. It wasn't until almost the hour mark where I stopped questioning why I was seeing this film.

This movie could have been much better with some simple changes to the storytelling, but as it is, it is confusing, slow, boring and pretty much useless. It's a pleasant and nice film, but there isn't enough going on to make you feel anything until almost the very end.
First off, this movie isn't for everyone. In fact, I'm sure a majority of people wouldn't like this film. However, if you think the idea of a stoned Jason Bourne demolishing everything in his path through the PULP Fiction universe sounds like it might be the best idea ever, then this movie is for you.

AMERICAN ULTRA is full of violence, gore, insanity, drug use and bad language. It is also spectacularly funny, incredibly well acted, highly compelling and suspenseful throughout. The story is fun and interesting, the twists are not obvious, and behind the whole thing is a killer love story.

I was hooked from the very beginning on this film and stayed riveted all the way through the end. And speaking of the end, this film has possibly the best ending scene of any movie released this year.

If you liked PULP FICTION I think you'll love AMERICAN ULTRA. If you didn't then you should probably stay far away from this flick.

This is a straight up action flick. Meaning it is really nothing but action. The plot is minimal, the character development is all but nonexistent, and the character arcs are flat.

If you are willing to check your brain at the door and ignore the massive plot holes and moments of convenience then you might find this a decent action movie. That said, it's not worth spending theater money to go see it. Your money would be much better spent on AMERICAN ULTRA this weekend.

There isn't anything in this movie that makes it necessary to see it on the big screen. Wait for the DVD.

I am almost positive I could feel IQ points slipping from my mind as I sat through this utter waste of time. I actually got a headache from my eyes rolling so often.

The only thing good about this movie is the end. I don't mean the ending, but the actual end. The part where the credits are at the end. Everything before that is horrible.

The acting (if you can even call it that) is as bad as IT FOLLOWS, the plot is stupid and convoluted, the scares are minimal and most of them are the lame jump-out-and-say-boo scares, and the main characters are so annoying I was actually wishing something bad would happen to them.

This film is 95 minutes long. About 70 minutes of it is boring, about 15 minutes of it is annoying, about 5 minutes of it is slightly suspenseful, and then there are 5 minutes of glorious end credits.

Save your money, and hopefully we will get a good horror flick in October.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-78637229753332246072015-08-17T17:25:00.000-07:002015-08-17T17:25:00.012-07:00DVD Review For August 18, 2015: LITTLE BOYBIG NEWS!!!!!
This is a beautifully done story of faith, hope and love. The story is told well, the acting is spot on, and even though it is a little too saccharin sweet it's heartwarming and enjoyable.

Jakob Salvati is an absolute joy to watch throughout the film. His happiness, faith and innocence will put a smile on your face that can only be taken away by the ravages of war and hatred.

The film does a nice job of paralleling the intertwined stories and making you really feel for the characters. In fact there is a nice character depth to almost all of the main players.

There are some thematic elements that make this a PG-13 film, so it isn't a film for the whole family, but it is one that I would take my children to see because it may open up some lines of dialogue about faith and prejudice.

LITTLE BOY is a great choice this week. It will make you smile, but you'll need some tissues as well.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8500387540320932136.post-69550198729169377902015-08-13T16:58:00.000-07:002015-08-14T07:02:57.330-07:00Movie Review For August 14, 2015: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. and STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTONSTRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON

If you were a teenager in the late 80s and early 90s there is no doubt that NWA was a part of your life in some form. You may have loved them, you may have hated them, but you definitely knew about them...and about Compton.

This film comes at a very interesting time in America where we are seeing cries of police brutality across the nation. As you watch the movie it almost feels like the words of Ice Cube and MC Ren were 25 years ahead of their time. (Either that, or we've been ignoring a real issue for a very long time).

This film clocks in at almost 2 1/2 hours, but it moves fast. The drama is real, intense and non-stop. It also has a light-hearted side that is a nice relief from the depths of darkness in which we find the characters. It also has a lot of the music from that era, but it feels like it's not quite enough.

The film is produced by Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Tomica Woods-Wright (the wife of Eazy E), and they all have said that they wanted this movie to be as close to the real thing as possible. I'm sure there are some embellishments and moments of convenience, but for the most part, it feels very authentic. The only major player not associated with the film is NWA's former manager Jerry Heller. He's said a few things about the film not relaying the truth, but time will tell if he thinks it is enough off base for a lawsuit.

The acting and casting are also stellar. Ice Cube's son plays his father in the film and the other actors are so spot on you actually feel like you are watching a reincarnation of the group.

This film has a better than average chance of being a contender during awards season. It is well worth spending the money to see it on the big screen.
THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.

If you are a tried and true fan of the James Bond franchise save your money for SPECTRE. This is not James Bond. It's not bad at all, in fact there is a lot about it that is quite enjoyable. It just has a completely different feel than you would expect from a typical spy flick. That probably has a lot to do with it being written, produced, and directed by Guy Ritchie.

I am always wary of a film that has one person in charge of so much. Especially if that person is one that is incapable of hearing the word "no" from his employees. (See: MacFarlane, Seth). But Ritchie actually made a movie worth seeing.

I wouldn't pay full price to see this flick simply because Henry Cavill's speech pattern is insufferably annoying and Armie Hammer's Russian accent is passable at best. Unfortunately, the two of them talk throughout the whole film.

I will say that the plot is interesting and suspenseful, there is a lot of great action and the laughs are plenty. You won't be disappointed seeing this film in theaters, but it's not going to be a long-lasting fan favorite.Clint Redwinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08733283024920116700noreply@blogger.com0
